ALBURNIA.
Tbe manager's report for the fortnight is as follows:—" Sons of Freedom level, 23rd June reef: Driving has been carried on here in.a good class of country, and favorable for making good progress, 22 feet baring been driven during the past week. The reef is now about 18 inches wide, and tbe footwall vein generally shows gold when broken down. Dixon s cross-cut: The ground here is much the same as last reported, but the contractors are making very fair headway, baring driren 12 feet 6 inches during the last fortnight. 160 feet level, west: These stopcs are now worked out up to the intermediate level, and the men that were engaged here are employed on the east side of the winze to take out a block of ground left standing in the floor of the east intermediate drive, and where we frequently seee good colours of gold when the reef is taken down. 160 feet level east: Sloping has also been carried on here, from whence a large portion of our general crushing dirt has come during the month. This quartz is of very low grade, and I now intend to put a portion of the men employed here to test another part of the drive, and the remainder to open out. higher up the winze, to see if we cannot get better quartz, as over this block good gold was obtained in driving the level. 70----feet level, hanging wall leader: Work is still being carried on here, but the leader does not look so well as formerly, yet I intend to carry on this drive, as it is proving a large piece of virgin ground, and ought to junction with some good gold-producing reefs. Stoping has also been carried on in this end of the mine on the Sons of Freedom reef, but the quartz became of low grade as we approached the Whau level. We are also stoping west upon this level, and the old stopes at present are yie'ding ver f fair crushing dirt, and occasionally some picked stone. Dixon'a reef: During the last few days I ha% started some men to open out an intermediate level in the new winze we were sinking a few weeks since, and the reef, where opened out looks well and shows gold freely through the stone, but no specimens as yet. Our quartz during the month has been of low grade, having crushed 345 Government trucks for the yield of 3530zs lldwts melted gold. The battery and all appliances are working well.—Thomas Badfobd.
