Mining Review of the Week.
From a letter which was published a few days back it would appear that Mr Greenville is somewhat aggrieved at our remarks in last week's review concerning his determination to close his mine and battery inconsequence of the excessive water charges levied by the County Council. We did not intend our remarks to be offensive in any degree to that gentleman, but simply wished to show that although the new scale might be oppressive to Mr Greenville, the County authorities could adopt no other course than strike a uniform rate, indeed they
would have laid themselves open to grave charges if they had not done so. , * Although a great deal has been written lately of the reported To Aroha goldfield, nothing definite has transpired, and it is evident that whatever it is the prospectors ure very reticent respecting it. The trouble appears to be that the land on which the supposed gold field is, is not in the hands of the Government, so the action of the prospectors is not to be wondered at. We trust that the ensuing week will throw some more light on the prospects of our new up-country gold* field.
