This day. Gold near Makotoa.

A man named Jackson, who was out pig hunting near l&akotoa about three weeks ago, met with what he considered indications of a quartz reef. He returned and prospected the neighbourhood, and has brought to Makotoa several pieces of quartz which he states he obtained from a reef about nine miles from the railway line. The stone on being crushed gave a good per centage of gold. A party has ieft for the reef under the guidance of Jackson.
