HOMESTEAD SELECTIONS.
Nearly all the farms taken up under the Homestead Aet are getting on very satis? factorily.
Mr Manuel has at least two acres of potatoes, and is getting a lerge piece of land broken up for other crops. Mr Broken shire has more than complied with the.conditions under which he took up the land, and has three acres of a good grass paddock. Mr Ludwig has three acres of potatoes planted, and is clearing a large area of fern land. - . .
Mr McMihon, one of the oldest of T^fm's settlors has gone to great expense oii his farm. He has bought a first class plough and other farming implements, and has o?er 30 acres in cultivation, 4 of which are in potatoes. His drainage works are brer two miles in length. The people in the place are looking up to him as a leading man. ; . Mr Hawkes is working upon some drainage works, and has planted with come fire acres. ' . . Mr Good, an old settler from the Kaipara, hns taken up a large block adjoining 3^r Walker's, and is already erecting his dwelling house. Mr feeble and others are also working with energy, and altogether the district has not looked so healthy for years. The anticipations of the old'days may yet be realised, and Tapu become the centre of the mining and agricultural pursuits on the peninsula.
