OHINEMURI.

(FBOM OUB OWN COBBEBPONDBNT.)

Paeroa, 30th September, 1880. Miners have passed through for the new rush at Te Aroba, where gold is said to have been found by the Government prospector, a native; this is tbe only person out under ilie control of Mr Adam Porler. We all hope the news is true, but so much is hinted at and so little said that we are doubtful until the report has been confirmed, and I trust we shall in due time see in the press a statement of how the vote of £400 has been expended, as all public money ought to be accounted for in this way. We are having excellent growing weather for grass and crops generally— there will be less of the latter in Ohinemuri this year than last. The natives are not planting £0 freely, all being hard up, and our settlers, with few exceptions, are busy on the road contracts between Paeroa and Te Aroha. The few referred to are going in for'grass. ' Col. Eraser has put down a fine block this spring, and has shown a very laudable desire to assist the settlers in improving the quality of their stock, he having recently brought to the district a superior draught entire (Glencoe) of good pedigree, and we are informed of his intention to introduce a pure shorthorn bull. Both will stand at his farm, Paeroa, occupied by Mr F. F. Lipsey. An.auction sale of cattle is held here' monthly, at which Col. Fraser officiates, but it lacks support, principally for want of being regularly advertised. This would bring from Waikato and Waitoa buyers of stock, as at present we only have sellers. We are confident that a regular monthly sale of cattle would conduce to the welfare of the district, and Col. Fraser deserves the thank b of the community for having stuck to it so long under not very favorable circumstances.
