DUNEDIN

This day.

Larnack's stables at the " camp," Portobello were burnt down last night. The damage is estimated at £2,500. The insurance was £500 in the New Zealand office. Nothing is yet known as to the origin of the fire.

In the Police Court to-day, with reference to case of Eobert A. Dunne, who was charged last week with failing to furnish certain returns required by the Friendly Societies Act, Inspector Mattard said that he had been instructed by the Registrar to ask leave to have the case withdrawn, as there was no intention on the part of defendant to do wrong in not forwarding returns sooner. His Worship accordingly allowed the whole of the charges to be withdrawn.
