A POSER FOR THE WIFE.
The following was left on the dining table of a gentleman Hying in one of the centres of population in Sew Zealand; for the information of his wife, as he was not on speaking terms with her :— Augußh 7th, 1880. I want you ta carefully study this statement :— My salary per week i« £6. Out of this I must psy, having no option— Building Society, per week ... £117 0 Support of my mother, per week 0 7 6 Insurances on hou^e, on the lives of the two boys and myself, and onfurniture, per week 0 8 0 Rates, per week.... 0 3 0 £2 15 6 Which leaves per week out of my ealaij, £i 4s 6d. This £3 4s 6d ought to be spent in this Way: —Butcher, 13s ; baker, 7s ; groceries, 13s; milk, 3s 6d; coal, ss; gas, ss; vegetables, 3s ; serrunt, 10s. Total, £2 19s 6d. Which leaves 5s a week to provide clothes for you, myself, and six children. There is no room for sickness or expenses for any kind of enjoyment.
