A man who was Buffering from a boil on bis face pettishly exclaimed:" I wish I knew the best place to hare aboil!" to which his litlle girl responded: " Why pa, the tea-kettle is the best place for & boil!" An old lady hearing the quotation-^ " There is a tide in the affairs of men,. which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune," said: " When our men folks took the tide at its flood, last spring, it didn't lead to fortune, but took 'em all OTor the dam." A young man asked a sailor: "Can you tell me why no hotel keeper would* like to hoard a ship?" " Because it* hold is too great," was the instantaneousreply.
