WELLINGTON.
This day. At a meeting of the officers of volunteer corps, it was decided to hold a review on the race course oo the Prince of Wales Birthday. A letter was reoeired from the Town Clerk, asking for the cooperation of the volunteers in receiving Sir Arthur Gordon.
John: Wilson, a lamplighter employed by the Corporation, attempted suicide this morning by taking two and a half ounces of laudanum. The dose was too strong and acted as an emetic. Wilson is out of danger.
A meeting of shareholders of tho Wei* lington Tramway Co., was held last night for the purpose of considering the following proposition from the purchasers of the line:—The purchasers offer to pay all the debts of the Coy., and to refund to all shareholders who have actually paid up their shares to the extent of £4 or more in cash, a-sum equivalent to the sum which such shareholders would be entitled to receive if the whole of the capital of the company were paid up; and if the whole sum, which on the most favorable estimate could be recovered from Mie promoters had actually been recovered and paid in cash ; and if certain shareholders who are alleged to have wrongfully surrendered their Shares were placed upon the list of contributors for the full value of their surrendered shares. It was carried unanimously. Mac Donald, auctioneer, continued his sale of jewellery last night, and the police laid a second information for breach of the ordinance. The oases will heard on Tuesday.
A public enquiry into charges of illtreating a prisoner by constables will be held on Wednesday morning before the Magistrate.
