THE GENERAL PARADE
was formed in. front of the Naval Hall about eight o'clock, the Scottish forming the right-half battalion and the Navalß the left. Lieut. Gavin acted as Field Adjutant. After several preliminary movements, the men were marched to t-hortland, and on returning the officers were called to the front and asked to .obtain the opinions of their respective companies concerning the invitation of the Auckland Volunteers to be present at the Prince of Wales Birthday Review in that city. On the men returning to their drill sheds,' they were consulted by their officers, the result being that the Scottish were adverse to going unless a good muster could be obtained, and the other companies would go en masse; while the Navals were unanimously in favour of visiting their Auokland brothers' in in arms.
