WELLINGTON.
Yesterday. The new'schedule under the Property Assessment Act has been gazetted. It is very dear and easy of comprehension. The time for returning the forms has been extended to the 25th of October. Mr Sidey, auctioneer, has called a meeting of his creditors. It is stated that the unsecured liabilities are under £600. At the Supreme Court, Doran, for cutting and wounding, was acquitted; Henry Victor Clifford, for perjury, received 12 mouths' hard labour; Charles Nicholson, for burglary, received 4 years. One case of larceny remains to be heard. This day. Dr Lemon has received the following cables:—"Cape York.—No communication has been made with the Sorata this morning. The tumps are working all right but do not appear to make any difference, the tug left with the hulk for Adelaide at about midnight; sea smooth. 2 p.m.: The pumps are still at work ; the after-hold is nearly dry, but they are unable to reduce the water in the main and fore holds."
Man Drowned. The body of a man was found floating in the harbor. It is supposed to be a man named Sullivan missing since the 4th. Supremo Court Sessions. Joseph Roberts, for attempting to rob the till in the Royal Hotel was sentenced to four weeks. Charitable Institutions, Government has written to the Council asking them to take over, the management of the hospital, including Benevolent Institutions, and that the Government will pay one half the cost, also ten per cent, of subsidies for nine months. The Hospital Committee of Council recommend that this arrangement be acceded to.
