THISTLE.
Such is the name of a claim situated at Ohio creek, Tararu, -and owned by Mr E. Thomas and others. After doing ga considerable amount of preliminary work —the ground had been previously wrought —they came on a healthy looking reef about two feet thick, and soon found that it contained gold in what is believed to be payable quantities. They are at present breaking out a parcel of 5 tons tor treatment at the Missouri battery, Tararu creek, and it is expected to yield at the rate of an ounce and a half per ton. Should this test come up to expectations, no doubt extensive operations will be carried on, and an impetus given to mining in the locality. The greatest difficulty to.be contended with is the bad
state of the road aloDg which the output will have to be sleighed to the Tararu tramway, though I have no doubt, if applicatiou is made to the County Council in proper form they will doalittle towards putting the track in a passable state.
