MOANATAIRI

The manager has discharged several hands from the Point Russell section until the winze and rise are connected. A reef was cut in the eastern drive here last week. One of the Morning Star leaders have been picked up and shows colours of gold. At the battery there is an improvement in the appearance of the crushing. The manager's report for the week is as follows:—Point Russell section : In e_ist drive at 100-feet level we have a strong reef, three" feet thick, and heavily charged with iron pyrites. As the stuff is low grade I have suspended driving, and started to rise against the winze. Four men are now employed in putting up the Golden Age rise. Two feet of hanging wall part of the reef is being broken out in rising, and the stone has an improved appearance, being darker in color, and more compact. Since the pipes have been fixed in Poibt Russell pa;ss for water blast, there is splendid ventilation iv the rise for working. Nonpareil crosscut has been extended 21 feet this week through a series of - quartz stringers. The slide should be intersected ere this, as the drive is now going straight for the Nonpareil shaft. Work is now bdng done on one of the Morning Star leaders which shows colors of gold. The cross-cut from footwall branch to No. 3 has intersected a leader three inches-thick, showing good colors of gold. This drive will be pushed home to boundary before commencing to open out on those leaders. Our crushing is showing improvement upon last return, and there is more pickrd stono on hand.—I am &c, Robt. Comee. -
