WESTPORT.
This day. Mr John Munro, agent for the St. Kilda Steam Shipping Co., has purchased the first cargo of Westport Colliery Company Coals, and will dispatch the St. Kilda for Wanganui direct on this evening tide. The St. Kilda has been detained for a week unable to enter the Grey, there being only 5 feet of water on the bar. Last week's cleaning up at the Alpine claim, Lyell, is fully up to the mark—three hundred and sixty ounces of amalgam for one hu^dj^Afti^tT^tbnT^ton^jzTfe J^era^e-rtrtukness af-thv-nrar-re- twentyfour feet. Operations at the United Victory claim, New Creek, Lyell, hare been stopped pending the registration of the company. . This property is described as equal to any yet found at LyeiK Owing to the Borough Council withdrawing subsidies and public subscriptions failing the district Hospital affairs are nearly at a standstill.
