Thames Harbour Board.

The monthly meeting of the Board was held yesterday afternoon. Messrs Brown (in the Chair), Osborne, Bead, Bagnall, and McGowan were present.

The minutes were read and confirmed.

Letters were read from H. C. Gillespie asking for permission to lay a tramway From the Shortland wharf to his coal shed; from the Government, asking for a copy-of Sir John Coode's report, which bad been replied to by forwarding copies of the Stab containing the report. The Harbor Master's report was read. An application was received for an allotment on the foreshore near the Goods Wharf. It was arranged to invite tenders for leases of such allotments.

The matter of the railways was brought up and the expenditure of the vote discussed. Mr Osborne was appointed to co operate with the Borough Council in the matter.

Mr Bagnall reported the result of his mission 10 Wellington. He said that immediately on arrival in. the Empire City, he waited upon Government in reference to the business he had in hand. Mr Brodie was also present, and assisted him greatly. Several interviews followed, and the result was that Government informed them that there were so many applicationsforflX|§^-of money from public k^HP*Tnatthe Government could not accede to them, and had to decline the application of the Thames Board amongst others. When he left Wellington he thought a bill would be passed authorising the Commissioner of Annuities to lend to local bodies sums of money at 7|- per cent. He had done all that it was possible to do in the matter, and regretted that his mission had not. been successful.—After some discussion, it was decided that Mr Bagnall should write out the report of his mission, in order that it might be forwarded to the manager of the Bank of New Zealand.

The Board then adjourned
