Last Night's Sitting.
THE BAILWAY CONSTBUCTION BILL SHELVED —BND OF TEE SESSION. After some further discussion on the Kail way Construction Bijl—wbich Sir George Grey, Mr Speight, Mr Sheehan, Mr Tole opposed strenuously—it was read a second time on a division, by 25 to 17, but on the understanding that it should not be further proceeded with this session.
Major Atkinson moved the second reading of the Permanent Officers' Salary Bill, explaining that its object was to apply the 10 per cent, reduction to the salaries of auditor and deputy-auditor general.—Motion agreed to. In Committee, a motion that the Chair* man do leave the chair, was negatived by 29 to 9.
A motion to include the Governor's salary in the ten per cent, reduction was lost by 19 to 11. The bill was reported, read a third time, and passed. Tho Public Works Appropriation Bill was introduced, read a first and second time, committed, and passed.
The Appropriation Bill wat also passed through all its stages, and the House adjourned till to-morrow for the formal prorogation. This day. A long discussion took place and the third reading of the Appropriation Bill, when Mr Johnston ventilated the Catholic Education grievance. Mr Brown complained of over representation to Taranaki in the new Bill.
Mr Macandrew complained of the late hours N kept by the House during the session.
Messrs Montgomery and Thompson reviewed the session at length to show how unsatisfactory it was. Mr Hall replied, generally blaming the Opposition for its disorganised condition, and declared Sir George Grey incapable of leading, and who would not follow.
At one o'clock the House was counted out, and stands adjourned till 2.30 today.
