London, August 20. In the House of Lords to-day, the Bight Hon. Earl Spencer, President of Council, admitted that the existing agtta* tion in Ireland was dangerous to the peace of that country, but it was not intended to proposa special laws to deal with the difficulties. The present common laws seemed sufficient. London, August 21. The cricket match, between the Australians and eighteen of Scarborough was resumed to-day. In the second innings of the Australians 171 runs were necessary to complete the match and they were all disposed of for 80 runs.
N.B.—lf the aboTe figure and those already given are correct, the Scarborough team have worn the matoh by 91 runs. A repetition is being called of various tele* grams. Calcutta, August 20. A report was received yesterday that Ayoub JSLkan had attacked the citadel at Candahar and been repulsed. It is now proved to be devoid of foundation. St. Pjtjbsbubo, August 20. The Supreme Commission appointed by j the Czar in March for the maintenance of the peace of Russia has now beea abolished.
General Loris Melikoff, who was head of the Commission, has, as recently announced, been appointed Minister of the Interior.
