To Whiti's Speech.

At the late meeting at Parahaka Te Wbiti spoke as follows:—He said; " All the evils I have, stirred up shall not be made clear. Neither of the two noes know how I shall finish my work. Taking men to prison is not good work when they are taken for nothing. fThii^ quarrel shall not be left for another year to finish.. It shall be finished thii year.. There is a door to every houseJand an L opening to every net, but there is no opening and no fence to my pa. /Ther* shall be no Land Court to adjudicate on - my land. It matters not whoshalltry to settle this difficulty—^iey will not succeed. They are wrong if they think it is the appointment of men that can settle it. This is an entirely new thing, and .those who are . wise ,in • other r things are wrong in this. All; Z have to say this day is: Come. and! dwell with me ye men of many tribes, and every tribe from four quarter* of; the land, for the back O r the difficulty is broken. Mine enemy will never koowv what I am aiming at tUl;he oomesib^ me." - • . ;; .: .i v tit

The seren Biblei of the world ate the Koran of the Mohammedans, the Eddas c of the Scandinavians, the :Trjjutikas.'of' the Buddhists, the EW Kings of the Chinese; the Three Vedas of the Hindoos, the Zendavesta of the, Persians,: and the: > Scriptures of the Christians. The Konin 7 is the most recent of these seven biblet, ' and not older than the serenth century off our era. It is a compound of quotations from the Old and New Testament* the Talmud, and the Gospel of St. Barnabas. The Eddas of the Scandinavians were first published in the fourteenth century.' The Pitikes of the Buddhists oontain sublime morals and pure aspirations, but r their author Hired and died in the sixth eentnry before Christ. There is nothing of excellence in these sacred boob, .not found in the Bible. The sacred writings'. of the Chinese are called the Eive Kings, •'.' Kings meaning web of cloth, or the warp that keeps the threads in their, place. They contain the best sayings of the best sages on the ethicopolUioal duties of life. These sayings cannot be traced to a period higher than the eleventh century B;C* The Three Vedas are the moatanoient books of the Hindoos, and it is the opinion of Max Muller, Wilson, Johnston, and our own Whitney, that they are not older than eleven centuries b.c. TheJSende▼esta of the Persians is the grandest of all the sacred books next to our Bible. Zoroaster, whose sayings it contains, was born the twelfth century, bo. . Bfoses . lired and wrote his Pentateuch fifteen/ centuries b.c, and therefore has a dear -■ margin of 300 years older than the most ancient of the other saqred writings. Dr Newman, of New York, argued' that whatever is excellent in the other books was derived, directly or indirectly, from IM the Christian Bible.

The author of "Our Visit to Hindo•tan" tells a good story. At Ulwar ttt politioal agent wished to plant an arenue of trees on either side of the ..road in front of the shops, for the purpose of git ins shade, and had decided to pat in peeptu trees, which are considered sacred of the ; Hindoos; but the bmitiaht, ; of native storekeepers, one and all declared thai if this were done they would not. take the ''- shops, and, when pressed-for a reason, replied it was becsuse they eonld not tell untruths or swear falaely onder their •; shade, adding, " And how can we carry oo business otherwise P" The force of this argument seems to hare been acknowledged, as the point was yielded, and other trees were planted instead. M. Trinquer, a Communist now,, ia exile in New Caledonia, has been elected, despite the opposition of M. GrambetU. ' a member of the Paris MunicipaU^y. :

spurious churches,. of the short reign of anti-Christ, and of the personal coming of Christ in glory, together with the I Kingdom^f God and universal reign of Christ as]Qlg:and Lord of the earth for 1000 yearjj^pDf signs we have enough in the; degenerate state of the nations, and the l*k>warm, frivolous and worldly copd^|j»n of■ Christians in general, we have|f^also the general distress and perplexity of the nations, and as regards our owni more especially the distress and perplexity of her colonies, as an illustration, we need go no further than New Zealand, the land of our adoption, which in consequence of selfish' and generally^ bad government, is in a deplorable mess, such as it can-never recover from in this age;> There are other equally ominous signs, such as the general arming of all the nations, to pay the piper for which, the massies are ground down by taxes grievous to be borne, and all this that the; degenerate and bloody rulers may be able to pounce upon a neighboring nation, and massacre its people wholesale, and bo! gratify their covetous and ambitious desires by adding to their nation the conquered territories. Then we have the general uneasiness, which exists as it never existed previously among all the. peoples of the earth, to crush their rulers' and possess themselves of their wealth. The whole points to a general upheaval of society, and a rule of tyranny such as the earth has never before been the theatre, and never will be after. But there i* another sign of the wind up of man's 6,000 years of folly, and that is the enormous increase of doubt, scepticism, infidelity and down right atheism. Men now cannot endure sound doctrine; they grow in hatred of all that is good and pure, daily. There is no God say they; Christ is not a celestial and divine redeemer; the Bible is not a divinely inspired book any more than other books; of the authenticity i of its writers we have no proof; anda variety of other equally infernal assertions, and with such success has the lying literature of the day engrafted these horrible ideas on men's minds that it seems an utter waste of time to attempt a refutation of the folly. A somewhat remarkable example of this has occcurred during the past week or two. Mr Laishley, one Sunday" evening, made a most able defence of the authenticity of the New Testament writers. Having heard this defence orir'selves we hesitate not to pronounce it the best in a small compass, we ever heard; the substance of it happened to be published in the Advertiser, when 10, a number of sceptical answers appeared to cry it down, but hardly a writer that we have observed upheld it as worth anything. This ought to con* vinee the minister of the fearful amount of infidelity there is even on the Thames, and he ought to know that it is increasing daily and' hourly all over , the earth. Ministers in general, even true ministers —as far as they have learned the truthare accustomed to live in a charmed circle of friends, and often, know but" little what goes on outside that circle, neither do they trouble themselves much about it; they will, however, be compelled to open their eyes and their ears also presently, and I trust they may not be astonishod when they find out the real state of things, among the people. We will however, ask these sceptics what better proof have they thai Csisar wrote the commentaries ascribed to him than the | proofs that Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John wrote the simple, narratives of our ' Lords's sayinps and doings P Ah ! but it is'not!proofs they require. No, no! it is the natural enmity of unrenewed human souls which makes them hate all that is

Godly and of good report. So they seek to close the pure fountain of truth or else -contaminate its wholesome waters. The fact \»i in one respect, it matters but little who wrote the simple and unadorned narratives, for they have truth on the free of them, they have within themselves evidence of being genuine productions, such evidence as all the sceptics in creation can never obliterate,, but an infidel of course cannot discern this evidence, or rather he will. not. Well, never mind, Christians, the days of the infidels and the atheists are numbered. Let them alone, for its a work of supererogation to attempt to turn their bitter waters into sweet ones. They will proceed onward till they reach their appointed gaol, and then will be the end of them all, for the mouth of the Lord whom they despise hath spoken it. This scepticism, &c, is a sign not to be mistaken, and. it must lead all mankind into anarchy and confusion, for the Deity will not be insulted in this daring way, .but will leave his erring children to work out their folly in their own damnable waj, and, the earth will speedily become a paodemonium of licenciousness and every infernalism, and then the direct plagues oF,heaven will finish up the destruction Jfchat ,they themselves have begun. Oh Christian ! Beware of a doubt, in Bible matters crush it in the bud or you are booked for atheism and destruction Man's works you may doubt, even the spurious Christianity of these days you may doubt, and the teachers of these days, the most of them, you have good reason to doubt, but beware how you doubt the Deity and His Divine Son, and His atonement for your redemption; beware how you doubt that divine revelation which is given v* that we may know the truth concerning the glorious purpose of the Deity in. His celestial and terrestial - Son towards this earth and mankind' at large. If you doubt these things you are condemned never to enter, the coming Kingdom of God, but must be cut off by destruction. However, not to burden the reader with too numerous a list of signs for they are legion we shall confine ourselves to the " sick man" sign. Our Lord tells us in the predictions referred to at !the commencement of this letter that " Jerusalem should be trodden down of the gentiles until their times should be fulfilled." Dow what do we witness ? Why. the very power that holds Jerusalem is about to become extinct and Jerusalem must fall into other hands. What does "Truth" say about this matter PI give an extract:—

"The sick man," sajsTruth, " «s now little more than a putrefying corpse. The Sultan's palace is surrounded by troops and earthworks, behind which the wretched creature cowers in dread of dethronement or assassination. To suppose that Turkey can be regenerated by means of the ruling Turks is to ignore palpable facts. The first step towards regeneration would be to sweep away their political existence. To treat with them, or to discuss with them, is a mere waste of time.' The right to govern means with them the right to rob, and to put down official robbery is to extinguish their 'raison d'etre.' The mistake that as yet has boen made has been to hare regarded these knaves as statesmen, in the European sense of the word. In intrigue, it is true, they are exceedingly clever; but it is intrigue in its lowest form. For the last two or three ysars their sol* aims bare been to obtain a

loan from Europe, which they may divide among themselves, and to maintain themselves in place, so as to be in a position tc profit by the loan, if ever that manna is rained down upon Constantinople." -

This extract points to the palpable fact of the sick man speedily becoming a Sutrified carcass—nothing can prevent is destruction. Now, again, what does our Lord predict Py"Wheresover the carcass is there will the Eagles be gathered together." Eagles are birds of prey; it is their want to devour dead carcasses. But what Eagles does our Lord refer to, for he spoke in parable? The carcass is, Turkey» and now she is dying; observe the eagles about to gather to devour her remains; there is the Austrian Eagle, the Russian Eagle, the French Eagle, the German and other eagles all intent to pick her bones—for, says the prophet Zachariah, Chap. 12— " In that day will I make Jurusalem a cup of poison (margin) and a burdensome stone for all people; all that burden themselves with it shall be cut to pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it." Now, the day is ; upon us; Jerusalem/ willj be liberated and all nations will struggle for it. But it is for the Jews, acceding to prediction's sureword; arid to the Jewslit must go'i for the mouth of the Lord bath spoken iit. The Anti-Christ (the coming victorious prince) is to covenant with these richer Jews for them to retain it for seven years,. and this, will—-a sort of political) restoration—be accomplished; the devil's imitation of the true one, and these Jews will believe in this victorious one as their long-promised Messiah, and will be ultimately destroyed by himthroUgb their error. But our Lord connects with the eagle prediction bis own parousia or coming to receive his waiting people in the air away from the then commenced time of trouble. And this is' bow we know the dissolution of the Ottoman power is the sign of all signs of these last days, and the signal for the real trouble to commence in Europe apd Asia, and whidh must ultimately spread all oyer the earth.

Our study of the Holy Word, therefore, in connexion with our watching of the ominous signs of these times leads us to the following conclusions:— ; 1881-2.—Closes the present degenerate and conflicting order of i hings. 1881-2.—lntroduces the specific terrible seven years times of the Anti-Christ — man of sin—son of perdition—the law* less one—the demon-man, N-Apollyoa, the being on the white horse. Rev. 6-2, and this opens the seven seals of

the same chapter. 1881-2.—Political, or bastard restoration of degenerate Jews to Palestine, under the covenant or treaty with Anti-

Christ. 1882-3.—Crusade of the "identity people," or bastard Israel—AngloIsrael—to Palestine. A fanatical restoration,' not .-the true one, as that cannot take place until the " time of trouble" is over, and Christ exalted

Zing of the Earth. 1882-3.—-Keturn of Christ to our air, or atmosphere; : first resurrection, or resurrection of the just, and translation of living saints to meet him in the air. Those who are waiting and earnestly looking for this parousia and espousal to Christ the Bridegroom, are the future rulers of the earth, Under-Kings and High Officers of Christ's King-

dom. 1882-3-4-5. — Commotions, revolutions, wars everywhere, but especially in Furope and Asia. The Papacy found supported by the .Bed Republican Boast with ten horns (powers) who backsl her up in all her blasphemy, cruelty, bloody deeds, and persecution of true Christians. The Ecclesiastical and the Political united upon the principle of "you scratch my back, and I will scratch yours, a principle too much acted upon now everywhere. 1885.—The Papacy utterly destroyed by the ten horned beast' that carried her; all her property (her flesh) seized and confiscated, her mass houses, convents, etc., burned with fire,, while the beast itself, the ten republican powers of Europe and Asia, give their power and strength to Anti-Christ, and serve him

in his tyrarieous rule. 1885.—Anti-Christ's absolute reign, commences over all nations, peoples, and toques for three years and a half or 42 months. This specific period, however, is shohtened by Christ according to his own word, or no flesh could be 84VED, so terrible is the tyranny and cruelty of this monster in human form towards believers in the Christ, and so

fierce the plagues of heaven under the vials on wicked and demon men. How much this period is shortened no one can say, seeing it is not revealed, but

supposing it to be shortened one year, then 1887 —Will wind up the reign of Anti. Christ with the great battle of Harmageddon to be fought on the plains of Meggiddo, which ends in the total destruction of Atheism and all its admirers, and with all the unbelievers in Christ's milennial kingdom, be they who they may. The sword which proceeds but of His month—that is His word—destroys them all. while He himself in person, as predicted by a Srophet of Israel, plants His feet on the fount of Olires; then the marriage of the Lamb of Calvary with bis faithful saints—His corporate bride—then completed in number, takes place, and the kingdom of righteousness, peace, and true holiness takes the place of the present unrighteous and selfish kingdoms and states, and is established on the earth. What a privilege to be a member of that government and a ruler in that kingdom, yea, even a subject of the same! Men hare to find out that it is the heavens that do rule, not

earth.

The books of - Daniel and John reveal all the abore, and very much more concerning these last days of the Gentile nations and the now imminent Kingdom of God. To every believing, watchful student of the despised book, these matters are as clear as daylight. John's Vision, the Book of. Revelations is to such, not a sealed book, but an open revelation, it is emphatically the book of these last days of mail's 6000 years of folly, a continuation of the book of Daniel and the other prophets of Israel, and yet the reading of this grand prediction of tho. Holy Spirit, by the pen of John is discouraged by spurious teachers and by spurious churches, while the written commentaries 0/ these spurious teachers have completely murdered it. Those commentators who failed to study the Bible as a prediction. have failed'also to see that these prophetic books were closed (Daniel 12) until the time of the end of the Gentile nation, and that timi is now ; but observing that it waa written

that he was blessed who read and kept the words of Revelation have invented all kinds of theories as fulfilments of that grand and glorious vision—most of these theories making out the book to be already fulfilled. Whitby, most decidedly, was the worst of the lot of these blunderers, so far as we have observed, for his millennium comes when the wobld has been converted to Christ by the teachers and churches of this age by their gold, their Exeter Hall spouters we suppose, and their consummate vanity. And then, when it is converted—echo answer, when P—these worthies are to invite Christ down from the heavens and make Him an offering of a converted world. This is the substance of " Whitby's Commentary," and nearly all the religious world has followed him instead of the Bible. " Vanity of vanities says the—inspired—preacher all is vanity ; '■' but of all the numerous vanities of this rediculous age, this is the worst, for it deprives Christ of the glory that rightfully belongs to Him, and places that glory on a set of poor mortals. Christ, however, will never give his glory to nnpther, however high and mighty he may have been in this present evil age, for thus it is written on the page of inspiration. So Whitby and his followers are nowhere. • a Editor of Enoch.
