Coromandel Mining News.

Success Got© Mining Co (Limited). —Mine manager's report:—"l have to inform you that since my last report I have still continued the level into the hill. The ground is bard, which prevents me from getting ahead so fast as 1 would like to do. The reef has made into solid stone about four inches in thickness, and looks well, carrying a little gold about it. I have not seen any as yet in the solid stone, but, judging from appearauces, I hope by next report to be able to send you better news.—Peter Reid. Coromandel, August 16, 1880/'

Royal Oak Mine —The manager reports : While continuing the stopes on the No. 1 reef the ground is getting easier, and the reef is in consequence getting stronger. The usual indications for get* ting gold are now. plentiful. New reef: The works going on here have not been profitable lately, but the preseut appearance shows a decided improvement. The reef is getting well defined, and I believe specimens will be forthcoming during the next fortnight. Empbess of India.—The .mining manager reports as follows:—Operations were commenced on the 19th ultimo, and consisted at first in preparing timbers, &c, for the working of the mine. This preparatory work occupied tomething more than a week. After the above named preparations we commenced to put in a drive for the purpose of inter* seoting the lode which had been discovered in the old level. I am happy in being able to report to you

that I _ have succeeded in making the ■ desired connection after having driven a distance of 56 feet, and with favourable prospects. This work has occupied a considerably longer time than I had anticipated, owing in the first place to the careful timbering required, especially under the road which crosses over the drive, and in the second place, to the unexpectedly hard nature of the ground. Now that I have succeeded in cutting the lode, I hope in my next report to give you some good news.
