RECOVERY OF OTTER'S BODY.
East Monday morning a storekeeper residing at the foot of the Karaka, named Otter, waa reported missing. He had risen from his bed about three o'clock, and making the excuse that he wished to go to the .back disappeared, and though every possible enquiry was made no tidings of him were received till yesterday afternoon. He was a man of somewhat eccentric habits, having some years ago gone home without mentioning a word to his family. Yesterday afternoon at about five o'clock three boys, named A. Hunter, A. Kae. and A. Joslin,. were rowing in the Kauatranga, and when near the slaughter yard their attention was drawn to the body of a man lyiog on the mud bank of the western side. With all speed they proceeded to Shortland, and on giving information to the police the body, which was slightly decomposed, waa recovered and conveyed to the Shortland Morgue. Here it was identified as that of the missing man Otter. The body was fully dressed, and there were no marks of violence. Farther particulars are given iv the report of the inquest published below.
