Burztskey, gcnmaker, was to-day charged at the It.M. Court with a breach of the Arms Act in selling a large quantity of ammunition without a permit* He was remanded pending the preferment .of other charges of selling to natives.

A prisoner named Hewson at the last criminal sessions was sentenced to two years and twenty-fire lashes. He received the flogging yesterday. The operation Was performed privately, and the general impression is that the whipping was a farce. The man who wielded the cat was allowed to disguise himself by blackening his face, and it is thought the whole thing was carried out entirely to the satisfaction of the prisoner.

At the Gas Company's annual meeting to-day a dividend was declared equal to twelve and a half per cent. £928 was carried to the reserve fund.
