Meeting of the Orphanage Committee.

A meeting of the above Committee was held at the Council Chambers yesterday afternoon. Present—Cr McGowan (in the Chair), and Mesdames McCullough, Wilkinson, Eilgour, McCauland Payne.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

The heads the outgoing correspon dence were read.

A letter was received from the Colonial Treasurer stating that a sum of £69 had been placed to the credit of the institution in the Bank of New Zealand, being subsidy (pound for pound) on the amount subscriptions received by tho institution for the quarter ending 30th June. The Master's report was read and adopted. The report of the Finance Committee, recommending payment of accounts to the amount of £33 11s Bd, was passed and ordered to be paidi .. , The B ridge Committee reported that they had inspected the bridge erected at the Orphanage by Mr Adams, and had |taken it over. They had paid him a sum of £45, and recommended a further payment of £50, which was agreed to. A letter was read from Mr B. N. Smith, which was referred to the Committee from the Borough Council. It was referred to the gentlemen of the Orphanage Committee. This concluded the business.
