Koohfort, who returned to France immediately after the proclamation of the recent Communist amnesty, has established a newspaper in Paris as an exponent of extreme views. His party tone, moat hostile to Gambetta, who has taken a more modeftte attitude in relation to public affairs, is not favourably regarded by the Communists.
The review held at Windsor was a great -success. There were upwards of 12,000 troops present. Her Majesty, accompanied by several members of the Boyal Family, was present, and expressed herself pleased with the appearance of the men.
London, July 13. -Serums disturbances bare Occurred amongst the Arabs at BagdajHand an English trading steamer thaK iil just arrired was attacked by fanatics, and ,in, the conflict which ensued the captain and the chief officer were murdered. The Turkish soldiery are encamped near the Tchalga lines of defence in the ricinity of Constantinople, and are said to hare mutinied owing to non*paymentv of arrears of pay. They hare presented a demand to the Sultan requiring either immediate payment, or their dismissal home.. The Sultan, who was greatly alarmed at the outbreak, promised acquiescence to the demands of the corps. It is proposed to disband a portion of the regiment disaffected, and to satisfy the demands of the others by payment of amounts due.
The valuable library of Professor Mornemsen, the well-known Roman Historian, of Berlin, has been destroyed by fire. ■ The Turkish Government has decided to oppose the carrying out of the decision of the European Powers, and is sending reinforcements to points of her territory, which are most, pressed by an attack of hostile forces. Six transports conveying troops ammunition, and artillery have been despatched to the defence of Saloaioa, one of the most important seaport cities of Turkey. Orders have also been issued for Sola and Pseirsa redoubts at the port
of Gal I i poli to be repaired, and th 4 necessary works are being proceeded with. Terrible Colliery Accident. A terrible catastrophe occurred yesteri day at the Fisca colliery in South Wales, | owing to explosion of fire-damp. There was a large number of men engaged in the mine at the time, and it has been ascertained that over 130 persons perished. An interesting ceremony of presenting Zulu war medals to the troops engaged in that campaign took place yesterday in the presence of the chief military authorities, and immense numbers of spectators. The prospects of the harvest are unsatisfactory. The weather recently has been very unfavorable, and the heavy continuous rains that have fallen have seriously damaged the crops. French. Chamber of Deputies. The sitting of the French Chamber of Deputies has been brought to a conclusion. M. Gambetta yesterday formally closed the session. Great excitement was caused in Paris in consequence of the expulsions of religious orders and the agitation arising from the Communistic celebration held in connection with the recent amnesty are subsiding. The authorities took precautions to prevent any outbreak. By the latest account from Paris it appears that the ordinary scheme has been put forward to the Sultan for the reorganisation of the. finance of Turkey, the condition of which has of late occasioned a good deal of anxiety. The! Porte has engaged a number of German financiers for the purpose of giving effect to the proposals. The King of Greece, after visiting Paris and London proceeded to Copenhagen to meet his father the King of Denmark. The King of Sweden is also on a visit to this Court, and a conference has been held between the three monarchs, the object has not. transpired, but it is surmised that the end in view is a concerted action between the smaller states of Europe, on matters affecting their general welfare.
