HAWERA.

This day.

Much satisfaction is expressed by settlers in this district at the prospect of a searching inquiry of the' Legislative Council into the New Plymouth harbor scheme and the right to levy a shilling rate on lands beyond the Waingonoro river. Mr Balleymen, solicitor, has been retained by the settlers to look up evidence and watch their interests generally. He was to leave Wanganui by the steamer Luna last night. The result of the enquiry is waited for with much interest.
