I Sydney, This day. The Victoria Theatre Burnt. A fire broke out in the Victoria Theatre, in. Pitt street, shortly after the performance closed last night. It soon gained such a hold that all efforts to extinguish it failed, and the building was completely destroyed. No lives were lost, and the buildings adjoining the theatre were only slightly damaged. Melbotthne, Thursday. When Parliament opened to-day, Mr Lalor, member for Grant, was elected Speaker, on the motion of the Mr Berry, seconded by Mr Gau nson member for Arrarat.
