VICTORIA.
In extending the main cross-cut a very hard bar of couutry was readied, which convinced the manager that the quartz interiected some days ago is the Vale of Avoca reef. He has consequently started driving,, and already the leader has began to increase in size and improve in appearance. There is now about eight or lOin. of well looking mineralised quartz in the face and the country is Erst-class. The flow of water that deceived the manager was caused by the water banked up between the lode and the hard bar of country above referred to. I think that the company is on the right track at last, •nd believe that the next few days operations will considerably improve the position of the mine.
