Mining Review of the Week.

In last week's article, commendatory

reference was made to the action of two companies in pq^Hng their telegrams at the Stock Exchange for the benefit of Thames shareholders, and we expressed a hope that the principle would be generally adopted by mining companies carrying on operations here, but whose offices are in Auckland. We are sorry to say that during the past week a glaring instance of the injustice inflicted on Thames holders by the withholding of information from them occurred. Yesterday morning an important discovery was made in the Southern Cross mine, information of the ■ame being speedily communicated to Auckland. Shortly after mid-day, there were strong inquiries for shares in thft Auckland market, but it was not until a few minutes before four o'clock in _ the afternoon that a telegram was received from the legal manager, Mr Stodart, conveying the substance of Mr Bleck's despatch. We do not know of any Thames shareholders losing their shares through lack of this information; perhaps ho one did, but they Were in jeppardy all the same. We argue that the holder of one share has as much right fo full and early information as the holder of a thousand, and if this proposition is admissable, in all fairness and justice the Thames should be as well treated as Auckland. We/ trust that those most interested will use their best endeavors to farther the adoption of the principle referred to. There has been a good deal of wonder expressed amongst habitues of the Corner respecting the New North Devon stock, the shares continuing firm and even having an upward tendency in spite of the reports that the mine is not looking so well, and the extraordinary poorness of the tributers present' crushing. Many are disposed to think that an effort is being made to pull, down the shares, while others again think that the mine is .really, not looking well. Which theory is (Borrect, time will show. ,
