BLENHEIM.

This day.

The Wool Pack Inn at Eenwick town, occupied by George Stevenson, was burnt on Wednesday night. . Its origin is not known, but it is supposed it broke out in one oi the bed-rooms. There were 20 persons in the house at the time of the occurrence, and they were greatly excited and a number jumped from the windows, sustaining slight l injuries A man named Moses Cartwright was burnt to death and four others were injured. It is surmised that Cartwright was acquainted with the passages leading from the exterior and when awakened he must hare run down stairs from which *vpassage led to the kitchen, turning off at tight angles and leading to another door. Instead of turning off the unfortunate man must have continued straight on into the kitchen and been suddenly brought up against the wall. The confusion which would naturally ensue in his mind- and the smoke which it may be presumed filled the apartment together combined to bring about his destruction, and he must hare fallen and been either suffocated or burnt to death, as his remains were found on the floor after the fire { The insurances were as follows:— On the building—£3oo in the Union r jßloo in the National, and £25 in the New Zealand ; furniture—£2oo in the Union; and £50 in the New Zealand; stock in trade—£ LOO in the Union; stable—£loo in the same office; billiard table—£l2o in the victoria.
