CHRISTCHURCH.
This day.
The Industrial Exhibition was opened by the Mayor to-day. There was a large attendance. Mr Wallers, Chairman of the Committee of Management, delivered the inaugural address, sketching the progress made in manufacture, art, and science in New Zealand. The display of exhibits was very imposing, and included many valuable articles. The machinery comprises weavers, looms, bale-presses, boot sole sewing machines, potters' wheels, etc., all at work, also a nail making machine, grinding and other interesting processes. Altogether there are nearly 200 exhibits. '
