The half-yearly meeting of the New Zealand Insurance Company was held this afternoon. In the directors' report after providing for all ascertained losses and writing off £3,554 as depreciation on investments, there remains a sum of £25,679 available for division, which the directors recommend should be appropriated as follows:—To payment of dividends at the rate of 10 per cent, per annum, £10,000; to bonus at five per cent, £5,000; to balance carried forward, £7,679; total, £22,679. The bonus of five per cent is now declared, and is to equalise the dividend of five per cent, only having been paid to the shareholders in the preceding half year. Warrants for dividend and bonus will be issued at the head office to-morrow, and at the several branches and agencies on report of *advict,«. i In the case of Mr Samuel Coombes for embracery, the jury, after retiring for four hours, returned with a verdict of " Not Guilty." The civil sittings at the Supreme Court commenced this morning. The first case was that of Gerald O'Halloran v. Ahi Pepini, an aboriginal native, for £121, money paid to the defendant and on his account. The jury found for the plaintiff for the full amount claimed. The Court then, adjourned until Monday next.
