LATE ENGLISH NEWS.

(Pee Press Association.)

VIA THE BLUFF

London, June 25

Sir Stafford Northcote submitted a motion to the House of Commons yesterday for Mr Bradlaugh to be released from custody on the grounds that the majority of the House had been satisfied. The motion was carried. Mr Gladstone abstained from taking any part in the proceedings. Mr Bradlaugh will present himself against the House to-day. Two hundred telegrams of sympathy from persons from Italy, France, Germany and parts of England have been received by Mr Bradkugh, and also large offers of money to assist him in prosecuting legal rights. The Duke of Connaught has opened the Victoria dock extension. At a banquet given in honor of the occasion, 4000 persons were present. The Government on Tuesday supported the proposal to permit an affirmation being made, and yesterday they permitted the Opposition to initiate, the step. It is doubtful what can be done with Mr Bradlaugb. Possibly Parliament arid the law courts may be brought into conflict over the question. The cause of strong opposition in this matter is attributed to religious feelings, and Bradlaugbi's filthy literature.

It is reported that the Russians have been defeated by the Turcomans in Central Asia.

London, June 26. Confederation of the South .- African Colonies-

A conference of delegates representing the various colonies of South Africa, assembled at Capetown on March last have been engaged considering a scheme of confederation of the several colouies. It was found impossible to arrive at a satisfactory settlement of the question, owing to the conflicting interests involved. The conference has accordingly dissolved, and all hope of a confederation of the South African Colonies is for the present abandoned.
