ALBURNIA.

The mine was visited today, but the manager's report being also to hand, I hold; my report over till tomorrow. The report is as follows:— "I have the honor tojreport as follows :— Sons ;of Freedom Tunnel: Since last report contractors have cut through the cross reef, and are agaiu driving in a good sandstone country, but so little has since been done on the reef that I cannot speak positively as ,£o its quality as yet; but the country is everything that could be desired for a good payable reef. The contractors have been somewhat hindered by bad air, but the air boxes are now, nearly complete, and partly erected, so that I hope better progress will now be made. Dixon's Cross cut: Upwards of 100 feet of this drive have now been cleaned put and repaired. 160 feet Level, east: Thirty-two feet have been, driven during the fortnight. The reef is small, and looks promising, but no gold shewing. Stopiug west has been carried on in the boundary, where we obtain some good specimens and picked stone with good crushing dirt. 70 feet level—Hanging-wall leader: Driving has, been carried on here. The leader is still small, but at every breaking down we can see gold freely. Stoping has also been carried on here on this leader, and on the Sons of Freedom reef with the. same results as last reported. There is also a party of men still engaged in working the old stopes where very satisfactory resulti are obtained. Intermediate level: Stoping has also been carried oh here east and west, where we still obtain some good crushing dirt and specimens.' Dixon's reef—Whau level: The men, engaged here clearing out and repairing drive preparatory to sinking winze, have now finished, and I hope to give you a good account from this place when JJ^^ winj^is starling.
