CURE.

Operations in this mine are still confined to the cross cut at No. 2 level for cutting the No. 7 lode. The driving contractors are meeting with a splendid class of country—easy to work, arid of a character favorable to the existence of gold. The manager expects to be on to the reef in about a fortnight. The No. j 7 lode- through one of the wain lodes of the vicinity is but little worked in the Cure below No. 1 .level. It will be remembered that some years ago the company sunk a winze on the lode from the floor of the No. 1 level. A small block was worked out from an intermediate level, the quartz from vhich—less than 100 tons—produced 400 ounces, and indeed the yield would have, been larger had not a parcel of specimens been stolen. Notwithstanding this splendid result the great cost and inconvenience of working the lode from a winze without an outlet, it was decided to suspend operations till the development of the No. 2 level had carried the workings nearer the lode. In the meantime' other lodes were discovered, and worked on one after the other, and it was not till a few months ago that the operation on the No. 7 lode at No. 2 level was decided on. There is a very good prospect of success attending the development of this virgin portion of the company's property. , "
