QUEEN OF BEAUTY EXTENDED.

Since the short stoppage last week the pump has been working splendidly, and the water is now down 40 feet below the No. 3 level. The water is being forked at the rate of 2 feet per' day, the pump working at 10 strokes per minute.- There is thirty feet yefc to be left ere the No. 4 level is free. On Monday the wellknown shaft contractor, Mr Harris commenced the work of enlarging the shaft from the No. 2 level downward. He will follow the water downward, enlarging the shaft for a distance of 180 feet. The manager has not yet received the County Council's water accouut, but the pump is using such a small quantity that it is sure f.o be light —indeed the whole cost of the maiutenance of pumping will be comparatively trifling.
