TOKATEA (COROMANDEL).

The Tokatea Company bare completed 105 feet of driving in the No. 7 level by the rock drill machinery on account of the' Toketea and Bismarck Companies. It is expected that about 200 feet farther driving will reach the soft channel of country carrying the reef through the Bismarck Company's mine, and about 300 feet will reach they boundary. The cost of driving and the time required to reach the Tokatea Company's mine will then be considerably lessened. The number of feet driven during the past week (allowing for a stoppage of 20 hours repairing machinery) is about Bft 6in. The rock is exceedingly hard and bad to shoot. During the stoppage of the machinery the men. were put on the face to draw by hand labour, and it was clearly proved that it would take treble the time to reach the Bismarck boundary by this means, and it would cost very much more than it does at present. In 24 hours seven holes are bored in the rock by hand; with the drill about 30. f-steel is used by hand labour; by the drill lsin. The cost in time and money is therefore lessened by using tbjdrilling machinery. :
