Mining Review of the Week.
During the week the symptoms of that dangerous disease " scrip fever. seem to have spread, and the scenes at the coiuer almost call back to one's nrid the old Catedopien days. Eveiyone seems eager for nothing else but to buy or sell scrip, and sti'l the public desire does not seem satisfied. Dn ing the last few months seven or eight new mi^ng comprises have been floated, all of which have had their day with the habitues of the corner, pid now it is stated two or tlree others will shortly see daylight. Amongst these latter the Southeij Cross, Me Tokey, has already made its appearance in the sharebrokers' lists, rid since its debut the stock have increased iti value nearly 50 per cent. Two companies will shortly be formed to work ground near Pua*a Flat—the Mit and the Luck's A '1. Tue promoters' shares ii the former have been selling weL du/ing the week. The chief excitements on 'Change have been tae
Kuranui Hill and the New Golden Crown, the shares in the former increasing in value 100 per cent, and in the latter about 50 per cent. As is the rule during periods of share excitement, there has been a good deal of grumbling against the management and directorates of this and that company. One man objects to golden stone being broken in a mine before the time promised, while another wants to know what right a manager has to keep his men below, for fear of information respecting it getting abroad. We are not disposed to offer comment on these complaints, but may be permitted to remark without causing offence that there is roguery in all trades, and in that of mining perhaps more than any other.
