Sir, —It is not surprising that an attempt should be made to oust our worthy and respected II.M. That strict justice, uncompromising honesty, end unassailable independence should be unpalatable to some parties is but natural; but that is no reason why their machinations should be tacitly acquiesced in by the better think ing part of the community. It seems desirable therefore that some step should be taken either by counter petition, or by public'meeting to gire expression to the opinion of the quiet and order loving inhabitants of tlie district, lest their silence should be reiKoo.istiUed or misrepresented.—Yours, &c., An Old L?esideju\
