BENDIGO UNITED.
In this mine the manager has effected communication between the' drive - on Carpenter's lode and the shaft. The hands are at present employed cleaning out the old drive at the bottom of the shaft. REUBEN PARR. On visiting this mine to-day I found that the quartz on hand was being sent down the tram, crushing having been started at the Herald mill. The crashing will comprise about 20 loads. In the drive on the Unicorn reef there is no change in the appearance of the lode to report. The cross-cut towards the Twentythird of June is making fair progress through tight country. There is a leader in the course of the drive but the 'hardness of the ground has pinched it up, and it does not look anything particular. The direction it takes is about north and south, so that there is a possibility of it 'being the Twenty-third of June lode worked with such success in the upper level. Payable gold was carried down from the surface, but eventually down* ward operations had to be suspended in consequence of the water. The manager hopes soon to be on payable stone in this drive. VICTORIA. Good progress continues to be made in the drive and the country has a favorable appearance for gold.
