MOANATAIRI.
In the tunnel level the manager is at present operating on the reef cat in the cross-cut about 200 feet from mum tunnel. There is about three feet ot quartz bearing a highly promising appearance, and as the country is favorable to the existence of gold it is hoped that something will be obtained from it. In the Nonpareil cross-cut a portion of the Calf ground has to be traversed to reach the Nonpareil section. The reef in winze from Creek level continues to show gold, and the stopes throughout bear a very satisfactory appearance. The weekly report of the mine manager is as follows :— Point Kussell.—The winze sinking, below creek level is now down 41 feet, carrying a reef 3 feet thick. The stone shows
colors of gold and is wortfi half an ounce per ton. Two men only are employed sinking as we are pushing forward the 100 feet level underneath with six men, working three Bhif'ts. The reef here is one foot thick, but chiefly composed of clay, and I doubt whether we are driving on the right lode. This, however, will be proved in a short time. During the last few days the quartz pass has been relined, the old lining being worn out. Tunnel Level: Driving o ")ig reef has been suspended and we have skated work on the three feet reef" intersected 200 feet from main tunnel; This lode is more promising for gold than anything yet met with at this level, being in a good class of country. The stuff will be tested from time to time as driving progresses. Nonpareil crosscut has been extended 28 feet this week, and is now 15 feet into the Golden Calf Company's ground. 80-feet level.—We bare sus* p'ended driving on the reef, and resumed work in the cross-cat, as I think there i are other payable leaders in this direction. Ventilation will also be obtained, making work less costly. The stopes throughout i are looking much better thin for some time past. 334 tons have been crushed, yielding 335fozs retorted gold;—I am, &c, Eobeet Combe. . ' !
