Melbourne Exhibition Committee.

A meeting of the above took place in the Borough Council Chambers this morning. His Worship presided, and there were also present, Messrs Brodie, Brown, Osborne, and Dean.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from the chief commission enclosing £10. A letter was read from £. K. Edwards, saying that he should only be too glad to give his services in making a good show of New Zealand ores and minerals. He also said that he Would send specimens of paints, should the Committee defray the cost. —It was decided to ask Mr Edwards what amount he would require to make ! a collection of minerals, including the painting of the board. A letter was read from the chief Committee asking that applications be made for the space required by the Sydney exhibits at the Melbourne Exhibition. A letter was read from Mr Challis, saying that three boxes were lying at Auckland for the Thames, and it was requested that the date on which they were sent from the Thames be forwarded. The Town Clerk said that the collector of Customs had wired to the Coifleotor at Auckland, who had sent the cases down, they were now lying on the wharf and were marked T.R.L. and T.I.A.A. Mr Brodie said that the Committee should avail themselves of the services of Mr George Black, Mining Edgineer, to attend the Exhibition and interview and report on the mining exhibits. Mr Brown seconded. He thought that Mr Black would do more good than half-a-dozen men like Dr Hector, who possessed theoretical knowledge, but did not understand the practical working of the gold mines. v A resolution to this effect was carried, and a telegram to the same end was sent to Wellington with a request that Mr Speight would use his influence with the Committee. | This concluded the business.
