ALBUENIA.
The following is the mine manager's weekly report:—" Sons of Freedom tunnel: Driving is still going on throngh a good class of country. On Saturday morning last in breaking down the reef we saw a nice color of gold, but nothing has been seen since, although the reef has still a good appearance, and the contractors are making fair progress. 160 feet level, Dixon's erosiont: The party of men engaged in cleaning out this crosscut hare made good progress. The old and broken timber has been removed and replaced, roads repaired and relaid, and everything is now in good working order to carry on the work. Stoping west has been carried on the Sons of Freedom reef. It has much the same appearance as last reported, showing colors of gold and giving a few specimens. East: Driving has been carried on here. Con* tractors having finished their contract a fresh one has been let for a further length of 60 feet. The reef here is still large and hard. A few days since we holed into the winze that was sunk near the junction of the hanging-wall leader in the 70 feot level since than the ventilation has greatly improved, and I hope the drive will proceed faster than theretofore. 70 feet level, east—hanging*wall leader; Driving and stoping have been carried on here. So change to report. Stoping has also been carried on the Sons of Free* dom reef towards the Devon boundary, with the same satisfactory results as last reported. Intermediate level east, Two men have been engaged in this drive which is now 60 feet east from winze; still showing colours of gold, and giving good crushing dirt. Stoping is also being earriedon over this drive, and owing to
the reef making so well in the drive which will give a much larger quantity of crushing dirt in this direciton than was at first anticipated. During the month this stope has given a large quantity of crushing dirt, with a good supply of specimens and picked stone. West: Stoping has also been carried on here. These stopes have also given a good supply of crushing dirt, with good specimens and picked stone, leaving a good show in the face. I have still two parties of men working the old stopes, where I get a few specimens occasionally, and the general dirt pays well. During the month there have been 350 tons quartz crushed for the return of 14920zs Iddwt6 of melted gold, and from the present appearance of the mint) there is every reason to expect a similar return next month.. Battery: There have been on an average 15 head of stampers employed for the company during the month. Everything still working well.-— Thomas Badfobd, Manager.—May 31st, 1880.
