MOANATAIRI.

During the past few days the crushing has been showing considerable improvement, and the manager expects a better yield from this fortnight's operations than from last. A trial crushing from the big reef in the tunnel, has proved poor. In the mine there is considerable improvement in the Point Russel winze, in which, the reef is showing strong colors of gold. —The following is the mine manager's weekly report:—" Point Bussell section : No. 3 winze is now down 43 feet below the creek level; the reef here is 3 feet thick, and other leaders are striking in from the footwall, on the north side which show strong colors of gold. No stuff from here has been crushed this week, but judging by its appearance I think the quartz will prove payable. At the 100 ft level the reef is small and only forms the wall. I have some doubts whether the lode is not split up, the mam part of quartz not being in the hanging wall side. Should no improvement take place after another weeks' driving, I shall test this by putting in another crosscut. Tunnel level: There is no change to report in the big reef. A trial parcel from here is now going through the battery, but proves to be poor. Nonpareil crosscut has been extended 28 feet this week, and is going through a good class of country traversed with quartz stringers. 80-feet level. —The new reef mentioned in the last report is one foot thick, but has not shown gold since first intersected. We are now driving upon it right and left from cross cut. There is no change to mention in the stopes. Tunnel level.—ln a previous report I mentioned intersecting a leader in cross-cut from footwall of No. 3 reef; this has since been driven on west 20 feet, and shows good minerals. I have great hope it will turn out produo* tive. At the battery 30 stampers are employed on our own stuff, and I am pleased to say the crushing is showing improvement over last return. —B. Comeb.
