NAPIER.

This day. Attempted Suicide.

William Collins, a groom at the livery stables, attempted suicide this morning. He went to the stables at eight o'clock, but instead of attending to his work, entered the office, where there were two guns, a muzzle and a breech loader. Finding no ammunition to load the muzzle gun, he emptied a cartridge for the purpose and then placed the muzzle under his chin and pulled the trigger. His jaws, tongue, and nose were completely blown away, but the brain is uninjured. The report alarmed a fellow workman, who conveyed the man to the Hospital. Collins has been drinking hard lately, and has a wife and three children. The doctors entertain no hope of saving his life.
