THAMES SCOTTISH.

This fine corps was inspected last night by Major Murray in his capacity as officer commanding the district. The attendance of both Nos. 1 and 2 Companies was very fair. The band also, under Mr Hnnter, mustered in strength, and added to the attraction by their melodious strains of choice music. The Major wa9 received by the battalion at open order with the "present," after which arms were shouldered, and a searching investigation was made of the weapons, clothing, and appointments of the men. Major Murray then taking command put the corps through a variety of line and column movements the whole of which were performed with exactness and precision. Successful prize winners having been called to the front, received the awards due io them for their good shooting at previous rifle matches. The following prizes were announced for competition to-morrow, and on succeediug Saturdays:—The champion belts of Nos. 1 and 2 companies, together with ten shillings cash and five gallons of Ebrenfried's beer accompanying each ; a watch presented by Mr Holdeß, a velvet cosy and smoking cap presented by Mrs T.ieut. Dey. Bachelor's prizes : —Perambulator, —~B.cradle, and bride's cake, which will be Won by the aggregates at to-morrow's and at the following Saturday's competition, subject to the farther condition that the winner enter the bonds of matrimony within six months from date. Prizes for second class shots—lst 12s 6d, 2nd 7s 6d, to be shot for at 200, 400, and 500 yards. The other prizes to be shot for at the 200, 400, 500, and 600 yards ranges, with five shots at each range. A special prize is also provided contingent on the winner of the No. 2 belt exceeding the score made by the champion of No. 1 company. A meeting of No. 2 company was held in the lecture room after parade to transact financial business, and to appoint a committee of members to draw up rules for the distribution of attendance prizes, a considerable sum of money being available for this object. The battalion headed by the band had a march out through Grahamstown previous to dismissal, after which the roll was called and the " Scottish musketeers" were dismissed to attend their civil and domestic duties.
