The Railway Commission.
A meeting of the Local Committee to arrange the evidence to be put before the Commission was held this morning. The following gentlemen will give evidence :— COAI. Messrs Comer and J. W. Walker will speak as to the amount of coal used in the mining industry. Mr Davies will give the quantity delivered this year. Messrs Alley and Elliott will prove that settlers would use the coal if brought from Waikato by the proposed line. Messrs Souter, Hogg, and Strange will prove that if the Waikato coal were delivered by railway that it could be sold for 12s per ton, and that 6,003 tons would be used in private consumption. Mr Davies will say that the amount used in the shipping will be increased from 2,000 to 3.C00 tons. Messrs Hennelly, Hogg, and Alley will prove that coal is procurable at Ohinemuri. TIMBER. Messrs Alley and Strange will give evidence in connection with the above industry. KAUBI GUM. Messrs Carpenter and Hogg will speak on the above subject. MISCELLANEOUS. Mr Mason will give evidence on meat. Mr Russell will speak as to ale and beer consumption. Mr W. Souter, W. Carpenter and the Harbour Master will speak as to merchandise shipped for Upper Thames from Shortland wharf. Messrs Wilkinson, Alley, Strange, and Elliott will speak as to land and population. Messrs Veale and Deeble will speak as to grocery.
