RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

DBTJNKENNESS.

Maggie McLean was brought up on a charge of being drunk and incapable in Burke street, Thames, yesterday. The prisoner, who admitted her guilt, was dismissed with a caution.

"HOM BLESS, BAGGED, AND TAN."

James Victor Oliver, a lad of about 12 years, was charged with being a neglected child according to the Act.

Louis Khrenfried, sworn, said he went over lo the Miranda on a shooting excursion, acd arrived there three days ago. He was much astonished at seeing a whice boy among the Maories, and proceeded to put some questions to the lad. The latter said that he had been turned out of his home by his mother and brothers who lived in Auckland, and who thrashf d him every time he went near the house. A Maori woman offered to take him with her, and the lad accepted the offer, and had been living among the Maories ever since. They had been very kind to him in their own way, but he was in want of good food and clothing, and when witness found him he was in a very distressing condition.

The Bench ordered the case to be adjourned for a week in order to allow the Justice to make enquiries as to the genuineness of the boy's statement. The Court then adjourned.
