FATAL ACCIDENT

Last night.

A fatal accident occurred at the Upper Hutt this afternoon, when a man named George Gilchrist was shot dead by another man, who was practising shooting. An inquest will be held to-morrow. Lateb, This day. It appears that the fatal accident to the man Gilchrist happened this way. The deceased fired at a bird and niissed it, and called his friend to fire at it. While the latter was making his way to fire, the gun exploded and the contents entered the deceased's abdomen killing him instantaneously. The charges against the captain and officers of the Manawatu are now proceeding.
