Steamer.
Arrived: 11.M.5.5. City of Sydney.' Passengers for Sau Francisco, fifty-two. In coming alongside, the steamer cut half through one of the main tees of the wharf. There was a disgraceful scene on the race course yesterday. Malvcm got his leg caught in the scoria stones and a broken leg resulted. An attempt was made to kill him with a blunt axe, but the handle broke. The animal's head and face were fearfully hacked, and the horse remained writhing in agony for some time until c second axe was procured. Arrived : Southern Cross from Levuka with dates to May nineteen. Dr Brower and party intend to start a pearl fishery. Chippenhall, owner of a plantation at Tavutavu has been committed for trial on the manslaughter of a Fijian laborer. Thomas Simpson, charged with the murder of Kimueli, at, Jiatumah, has been remanded. Fearful Accident. Richard Selby, third sou of William Selby of The Poplars, accidentally shot himself yesterday, near Cambridge, while out shooting with William Hosking of the Thames.
