It is stated that affairs in the remote districts of Roumelia are causing much anxiety. Bands of Bulgarian soldiery have been indulging in. the utmost exesses in defiance of the authorities, and have in numerous instances assailed the Mahomedan; population. Intelligence has been received that nine Turkish villages have been. attacked and given up to pillage The women were outraged, andthe males, young and old, were slaughtered without mercy. ' The famine in the provinces of Persia is owing to the failure of the late harvest and the oppressive system the Government is daily extending. The rural population have been left without means of subsistence, and 600 deaths have occurred from the effects of starvation.
