Sir Andrew Clarke will accompany the Marquis of Ripon, the Viceroy of India, on Thursday, at his special request.

The London Commission are sending a collection of pictures to Melbourne. Although limited, the collection is of first class merit, including Leightou's original cartoon " War," be|pes works of other eminent artists.

At a meeting of the Catholic Union, held in London, the Duke of Norfolk presented Cardinal Newman with the salver, subscribed for in Sydney and made front Australian gold. The Cardinal replied, warmly thanking his Australian friends.

Owing to the turbulence caused by men in Rabax (?) and elsewhere, the military have been employed to preserve order. There are increasing indications of Abdul Rahman desiring to arrange with the British in Afghanistan.
